The findings of this study will benefitprove
pertinent and beneficial to Asian
higher education, communities, in particularly,
where research on college student outcomes has not been carried out
enoughis insufficient to
guide institutional[JH1] policies
and practices. WhileObviously,
contextual differences may necessitate

region-specific study, ies using data [JH2] collected
from college students[JH3] in
this region, but in the meantime, Asian institutions

being proved useful for American students. As this study clearly
shows, students will better develop
their civic mindedness more when they are actively involved
in various curricular and extracurricular activities, though the
underlying mechanism requires closer
examination[JH5] [JH6] . Since
neither

them to participate in organized
demonstration on purpose, it
would be a more viable to makemaking
community service courses available, or even required, for
students to take[JH7] is advisable. A
greaterEspecially close
attention is warranted to female and science major students,
moreover, is warranted: both
have been entering Asian colleges and universities
in increasing numbers in recent years, whoand the latter[JH8] are likelytend to develop civic values during
college[JH9] to a lesser
degree[JH10] ,. given
that the recent trend of a steady increase in the number of female students
entering into colleges and universities and of students majored in engineering
and science in developing countries in Asia. Although the underlying
mechanism is to be further studied, college
students appear to develop their civic mindedness when exposed to various dimensions of campus environment[JH11] . The
somewhat modest institutional effects found in this study doshould not
dissuade university administrators from attending to institutional features,
but rather should remindprompt them to call for a fresh look
atreconsider newthe variety of sources[JH12] of collegiate influences on the civic
values of college students. All in all, the development of a
"mid-range theory" of civic values development will immensely
benefit Asian students and Asian
higher education communities. will be immensely
benefited from the development of a "mid-range theory" of civic
values development for Asian students.
